Series preview - Tampa Bay Devil Rays
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays will come to the Metrodome for a four game series beginning on Thursday. They've lost 4 of their last five games, but are coming off a 6-5 victory against the Rangers on Wednesday night. They split their opening series with the Yankees last week. The D-rays are known as the perennial cellar-dwellers of the AL Eeast, but they might be starting to build up a better team (though they're not there yet).
Twins heating up as season winds down
The Twins offense had been in a two-week funk that left them playing about .500 ball. They finally seemed to have gotten the offense going again. They've scored 9+ runs in three of the past four games. Nick Punto has 6 hits in the past two games, Joe Mauer is on a 6-game hitting streak, and Michael Cuddyer's 4 RBI on Monday moved his season total to 98. In addition, Carlos Silva put together his second straight good peformance and this time didn't leave early with a tummy ache.
Rondell keeps Twins rolling
After a mini-slump surrounding the All-Star break in which the Twins lost 5 of 6, the Twins have gotten back into the form they exhibited in June. They've won 6 games in a row and even Rondell White is contributing. White tripled his season homerun total with 2 longballs on Wednesdays night. He also had a double in the game to round out a 3-4 night at the plate with 3 RBI. Rondell's offensive resurgence couldn't have come at a better time. With the injuries to Lew Ford, Shannon Stewart and Torii Hunter the Twins needed other guys to step up. Jason Tyner did it in his first few games, and now White has started to show signs of life.
