Injuries mount in win over Cleveland

With Johan Santana on the mound the Twins led the entire game, but the victory came at a cost. Shannon Stewart and Torii Hunter left the game with foot injuries leaving an already thin outfield in even worse shape. Nick Punto finished the game in center field. Stewart has already been placed on the DL.

Twins get to Turnbow

Milwaukee starter Chris Capuano had been able to shut down Twins' offenses in the past, but on Saturday night the bats managed 6 runs over 4 innings off Capuano. Normally, those runs would've been enough, but Silva struggled through 4 1/3 innings while giving up 7 runs (5 ER). It took the eighth inning collapse of Brewer closer Derrick Turnbow to give the Twins their 9th straight victory.

Weekend Preview: Brewers at Twins

The Twins are riding their second longest winning streak of the season (7 games) which is separated by only 1 loss from their longest winning streak of 8 games. Milwaukee is a mediocre team, so I expect the Twins to keep things rolling through the weekend. The pitching matchups will be as follows:

Kubel or White?

With Shannon Stewart due to come off the DL in the next week, a decision is going to have to be made as to who will go down. Jason Kubel was called up to fill Stewart's roster spot, so an obvious option would be to send him back to Rochester, but is that the best decision?

White Sox 9, Twins 7

Sunday night's bizarre game included 10 total runs in the first inning, a lot of shaky defense and even a triple play. It was probably the most dissapointing loss for the Twins all year considering that they were handed a 7-3 lead after the first inning.

The Twins won the first of four games against the White Sox with the help of another great performance by Johan Santana. Johan didn't waste any time ending the no hit bid this time by giving up a leadoff double to Pablo Ozuna in the 1st. However, like his last start against the Tigers, Johan held his opponent scoreless through 6 innings. During that time the Twins offense was strong against struggling White Sox starter Jon Garland.

Making the lineup card for Saturday night's game wasn't an easy task for Ron Gardenhire. Shannon Stewart is still away with his wife who just gave birth to their first child. Luis Castillo is still hobbled with the knee injury from Thursday's game, and Ruben Sierra is a bit sore from fouling a ball off the ankle. All this meant Rondell White, the usual DH was playing in Left field, Luis Rodgriguez was playing at second, Joe Mauer was the DH, and Mike Redmond was behind the plate.

Player of the Week: Week 1

The season is underway, so it's time to start what will become a weekly series at Twins Nation. Monday is often an off day for the Twins, so we'll take advantage of it to announce who we think was the most valuable player of the previous week for the Twins.

Twins 3, Blue Jays 6

The Twins dropped the series after losing the 3rd game to the Blue Jays by a score of 6 to 3. Mauer, Kubel and Castro had the day off in preparation for tomorrow's day game in Cleveland (and also because of a LHP tonight).

The Twins couldn't muster the offense needed against Roy Halladay and B.J. Ryan in the season opener. Santana clearly wasn't in midseason form as he seemed to hit a wall in the 6th inning. The Twins hit two homeruns (Batista and Stewart) but couldn't get enough baserunners to put runs on the board.
