Bats silent as Twins drop series

Jorge De La Rosa shut down the Twins offense as the Royals won the series two games to one. De La Rosa got into trouble early as he loaded the bases with just one out. However, he got Justin Morneau on strikes and Torii Hunter flied out to end the inning with three runners stranded. After that first inning The Twins didn't see a baserunner until the sixth inning when Joe Mauer got his second single of the day. Cuddyer doubled after that to score the only Twins' run of the day.

Bullpen leads Twins to win

Saturday afternoon's game got off to an ugly start. Boof Bonser loaded the bases with a leadoff single by David DeJesus, a bunt single from Mark Grudzielanek and an infield single from Mike Sweeney. Bonser struck out Mark Teahan and Ross Gload for the first two outs of the inning, but then Luis Rodriguez, who was playing second had a pop fly bounce off his glove in shallow center field to allow 2 runs to score. Bonser then struck out Alex Gordon to end the inning.

The last two nights have been perfect indications that the playoff race is heating up. Two of the most exciting games of the season came back to back, and best of all, the Twins won both. The Twins jumped out to an early lead against Jose Contreras, scoring five runs in the first three innings and knocking Contreras out of the game after 2 2/3 innings. Santana wasn't as dominate as he usually is, but he managed to get through 7 innings allowing just three runs (two earned) and it looked like everything was going well—the Twins were cruising to victory and the bullpen was going to get some rest. Then things got interesting.
