Twins rout Mariners in opener

Before the game it was safe to assume that it would be a high scoring affair with two not so great pitchers, Jeff Weaver and Ramon Ortiz, faced off against each other. Ortiz got through the game without much damage, but Weaver was absolutely terrible. Weaver actually cut his 31.50 ERA in half with the 7 runs in 6 innings, but a 15.75 ERA still sucks.

Series preview - Seattle Mariners

The Twins will start off a 6-game road trip with a stop out west to face the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners literally got off to a slow start this season when they were forced to sit around in Cleveland for an entire weekend as games got postponed. None of the four games were able to be played. They were also postponed on Thursday in Boston. When they've been able to play they've been up and down. The Mariners have lost by lopsided scores such as 9-0 and 14-3 and they've recently had lopsided victories against Texas (8-3 and 14-3).

Liriano will have surgery

Francisco Liriano has decided to undergo Tommy John surgery after months of questioning whether strength training was an effective option. Liriano will have the procedure done on Monday and will then immediately begin on what's expected to be 18 months of rehab. The chances of him returning during 2007 is virtually zero and even when he returns in 2008 there may be questions marks as to how effective he will be.

Angels 6, Twins 3

Scott Baker struggled again on Tuesday night and now stands to possibly become the third pitcher exiled from the Twins rotation this season. The most likely replacement would be Carlos Silva, who was moved out of the rotation a couple weeks ago to work on his stuff. That doesn't exactly give me a lot of confidence, but what other options would we have?
