Twins Capitalize on Morrow Implosion
Down 5-3, and with Carlos Gomez at the plate with 2 outs and 2 strikes, it seemed clear that the Twins were headed to an 0-2 start against the Seattle Mariners. However, Go-Go drew a walk from Seattle Closer Brandon Morrow and Kubel and Buscher followed up with walks themselves. Denard Span brought the Twins within a run with his third single of the night and then Casilla poked a single into center field to score the tying and winning runs, in walk off fashion.
2008 Projection: Francisco Liriano
This is a continuation of the 2008 player projections series. We're currently working through the pitchers and today we find ourselves looking at Francisco Liriano who is working his way back onto the Twins roster after missing all of 2007 rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
Early spark avoids the sweep
The Twins avoided a 4-game sweep with their 8-4 victory against the Mariner's on Wednesday afternoon. The first inning saw 11 batters come to the plate for the Twins and the 7-run inning was highlighted by Michael Cuddyer's grand slam. Alexi Casilla also tripled in the inning. Jason Kubel added an eighth run in the second inning with an RBI single that drove in Torii Hunter.
The Johan Santana Show
The Twins may be realistically be out of the playoff hunt, but Johan Santana demonstrated on Sunday why it pays to keep watching this team anyway. Johan struck out 17 Ranger batters through 8 innings on Sunday. Interesting notes about the event:
Series preview - Baltimore Orioles
It's opening day! In case you're not a weekend reader (which is common), please be sure to check out the two posts I made over the weekend discussing the hitters and pitchers on the Twins opening day roster. This year I want to start previewing each series, so here's the preview of the opening series at home against the Baltimore Orioles.
Japan All-Star Series
MLB's globalization efforts are turning baseball into a year event. March brought us the World Baseball Classic and November will see the inaugural Japan All-Star Series featuring a team of MLB "All-Stars" against Japan's best players. Taking a look at the MLB roster, it's clear that the term All-Star might be an exaggeration, but what more can you expect after a long regular season has just ended?
