Twins get a reality check
Just about everything went right on opening day. In game two, just about nothing went right as the Twins fell to the Angels by a score of 9-1. Boof Bonser labored to get through six innings. It could've been worse—Boof left 3 runners stranded in scoring position.
It wasn't all bad
For a 15-7 loss, there's still some positive things that can be taken from the game. For the second straight game, the Twins offense was able to put some runs on the board. Michael Cuddyer gave the Twins an early lead with a 2-run homer in the first. The Twins had 3 other home runs--2 from Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel's first. The problem on Tuesday night was Twins pitching.
Series split with Tampa Bay
It was, for the most part, a disappointing series for the Twins against a team that they should be able to defeat easily. Not only did they lose on Friday night with ace Johan Santana on the mound, but Joe Nathan took the loss in the ninth inning on Sunday. With the exception of Saturday night, the Twins bats were weak all series long largely due to the ineffectiveness of the "piranhas".
Santana takes first loss
In 2005 Johan Santana started off the season with 3 straight victories. He was poised to do it again, but one bad inning and the lack of offensive support sent the Twins and Johan to a loss against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Twins could muster only 2 runs against the tough lefty, Scott Kazmir.
