Yankees 9, Twins 3 Yankees 9 at Twins 3 April 16th, 2006 at 7:29 pm
After dropping the first two games of the series, the Yankees set out to remind the Twins just who they were, and that’s exactly what they did on Sunday at the Metrodome. Brad Radke gave up 3 runs in the 2nd inning including a deep homerun for Jason Giambi. Radke also gave up 2 runs in the 5th and 1 run in the 6th. Radke gave up 3 homeruns in the game after neither team hit any homeruns in the first two games of the series.
The Twins managed to put a few runs on the board, but by that time the deficit was too much to overcome. Chien-Ming Wang pitched 7 innings for the Yankees and racked up a career hight 8 strikeouts. Although it was an ugly way to end the series, Twins fans have to be pleased with the fact that they took 2 of 3 from the Yankees.
Game Notes
- Matt Guerrier was not effecitve in his relief stint. He went 2/3 of an inning and gave up 3 runs.
- Willie Eyre finished up the game for the Twins with 2 1/3 innings and gave up no runs, although the Yankees did put up a threat in the ninth. With bases loaded and no outs Eyre managed to get in infield ground ball, a strikeout, and then an inning ending groundout to escape with no damage.
- Rondell White continues to be the sandbag tied to the foot of this offense. Batting in the cleanup spot, White was 0-for-4 with 3 K’s. He left 4 on base, something that’s become routine for him. I’m starting to lose patience with him, and at some point Gardenhire has to do something to switch things up. Sending him out there every night to hit cleanup isn’t working.
- Luis Castillo had a little bit of soreness this morning and asked to have the day off. Luis Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with an RBI in his place.
- Jason Kubel was 1-for-1 tonight as a pinch hitter. This could have been his last game with the team for a while, as it’s rumored that he’ll be sent to Rochester on Tuesday to make room for Ruben Sierra. While Kubel hasn’t done much this season, he hasn’t really had much playing time either.
