Tyner picks up Twins Indians 2 at Twins 3 July 14th, 2006 at 11:03 pm
Jason Tyner joined the Twins on Friday night from AAA Rochester after Lew Ford was placed on the DL with a strained oblique muscle. The 29 year old Tyner didn’t waste any time in making a positive impact. On a night of stranded baserunners, Tyner provided two RBI singles—one of which was a walk-off hit in the 10th.
The Twins picked up 13 hits and 4 walks in the game, but only managed 3 runs. As a team they left 13 runners on base including bases loaded in the 2nd. Although Tyner did get two run-scoring hits he did also leave 4 runners on the basebaths through his other 3 at-bats.
Radke was great in the start. It took him just 87 pitches to get through 7 innings and his only mistake was a 6th inning walk followed by a Jason Michaels two-run homer. Radke allowed only that walk and 3 other hits while striking out 6. Rincon pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings before Dennys Reyes was brought in to face lefty Travis Hafner. After getting up on Hafner 0-2, Reyes gave up a hit. He was bailed out by a Victor Martinez’s GIDP.
Game Notes
- Joe Nathan, who pitched the top of the 10th, picked up his 6th win of the year
- Radke has an ERA below 5 for the first time all season. It’s 4.97.
- Torii Hunter and Jason Kubel each had 3 hits including singles in the 10th.
- Morneau went 2-5 a night after snapping his 16 game hit streak.
Remainder of the series
Johan Santana will take the mound on Saturday night against Twins killer C.C. Sabathia who pitched a complete game shutout against the Twins on May 24th. It should be a fun matchup to watch. Carlos Silva will pitch on Sunday for the first time since leaving the game early in Texas after getting rocked hurting his knee on July 7th.
