Twins win second straight series Twins 5 at Rangers 3 May 23rd, 2007 at 11:30 pm

Despite winning the final two series of the road trip the Twins ended up with a losing record of 4-5 on the trip thanks to the sweep by Cleveland. The Twins defeated the Rangers in the third game of that series by a score of 5 to 3 on Wednesday and will now get a day of rest on Thursday before opening up the weekend series at home against Toronto.

Boof Bonser got the win, but his pitch count was high enough that he only lasted 5 innings before the bullpen took over. It was Boof’s second straight win of the season. His counterpart, Robinson Tejada, didn’t fair so well. He lasted just 3 innings and gave up all of the Twins five runs.

Justin Morneau’s only hit was his 14th homer of the season. Luis Castillo provided most of the remaining hits with a 3-5 afternoon at the plate. He has a 7 game hitting streak going and is batting .329.

Game Notes

  • Jason Tyner was the DH. I was hoping I’d never see that again. He was 0-4 but did drive in a run on a fielder’s choice and also scored later in that inning.
  • Chris Heintz got the start and went 1 for 5. It could be his last action with the Twins with Joe Mauer eying a possible weekend return.
  • Matt Guerrier pitched 2 scoreless innings and has not allowed a run in his last 8 2/3.
  • Joe Nathan recorded his 9th save of the season. His 8th came way back on May 5th against Boston.

For the second night 2 of the 3 teams ahead of the Twins in the AL Central lost, allowing the Twins to creep a little bit closer. They’re now 6.5 behind Detroit and just 2.5 games behind third place Chicago.
