Twins win finale against Nationals Nationals 3 at Twins 6 June 10th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
The Twins have lost their third straight series by a score of by a score of 2 games to 1. On Sunday they were in the lead for the entire game after scoring 3 runs right away in the first inning.
Only two days after returning and with an off day on Monday, Joe Mauer had the day off. Jason Bartlett batted in the #2 spot with Jeff Cirillo as the DH. In the first inning, Luis Castillo led off with a double and was then driven in by a Bartlett single. Later in the inning Torii Hunter and Mike Redmond provided 2-out singles to drive in the other two runs.
Boof Bonser pitched just well enough to win. He dodged a bullet when a 2-run homer by Dmitri Young was called back when the homeplate umpire overruled the first base umpire and called it foul. Bonser went on to allow a baserunner in each inning he pitched, but escaped after five innings pitched with a narrow 4-3 lead.
The bullpen of Matt Guerrier, Pat Neshek and Joe Nathan held the Nats scoreless the rest of the way and the Twins added an insurance run in each of the sixth and seventh innings.
The Twins had 15 hits and probably should have scored more runs. As a team they left 10 runners on base. Individually, Justin Morneau left 4 on base and Michael Cuddyer left 3 on. They were a combined 1 for 9 on the day.
