Twins open spring season Twins 1 at Reds 6 February 29th, 2008 at 12:30 am

The Twins lost their first official game of the preseason, to the Reds by a score of 6 to 1.

Glen Perkins gave up 4 hits and a 3-run homerun in the fifth inning after Scott Baker started the game with 2 shutout innings and Matt Guerrier and Pat Neshek followed with a scoreless inning each. After that the game went to pitchers who won’t make the active roster out of spring.

Carlos Gomez got the start in CF and was relieved by Jason Pridie. Both were hitless with a strikeout. Actually, the whole lineup was pretty quiet. The Twins had no extra base hits.

Brendan Harris started at second base and was criticized for not turning what should’ve been a double play in the first inning. Alexi Casilla started at SS and moved over to finish the game at second.

Many notable players didn’t see any playing time–mainly Justin Morneau, Delmon Young and Adam Everett. Not at all surprising for the first game of the spring. They’ll surely get their turn on Friday night against Boston.

Francisco Liriano continues to take it easy in his bullpen session, by the instruction of coaches, but is eying early next week for a grapefruit league debut.
