Twins lose first Twins 0 at White Sox 3 April 7th, 2007 at 11:30 pm
The Twins lost their first game of the season as they just couldn’t get their bats going in the cold weather. A lot of Twins fans will point to Carlos Silva’s start as an indication of good things to come, but I’m still a bit skeptical. Hitters don’t like cold weather and when you look at the fact that Javier Vasquez held the Twins to just 1 hit in 6 2/3 innings, it’s probably more likely that the hitters were just struggling in the cold. The cold can only do so much, so we still have to give Silva credit for an effective outing.
Game Notes
- Michael Cuddyer was 2 for 3 in the game, but made a big base running mistake when he went home on a shallow Jason Tyner popup in the second with just one out. He was easily doubled up to end the inning.
- The Twins put together just 3 hits in the game. They had some baserunners due to the help of four walks, but they weren’t able to come up with the timely hits.
- Dennys Reyes didn’t look good and helped the White Sox put the game out of reach. He allowed to hits and a walk in 1/3 inning in the eighth.
- Matt Guerrier pitched a perfect two innings in his season debut.
Johan Santana will try to get the Twins back into the win column Sunday afternoon against lefty John Danks.
