Twins 6, Indians 11 Twins 6 at Indians 11 April 7th, 2006 at 5:13 pm
The Twins pitching struggles continued today against the Cleveland Indians. Every time the Twins put some runs on the board, Cleveland would answer in the bottom of the inning with runs of their own.
Kyle Lohse had a rough 1st inning that could’ve been worse. A 5-4-3 double play with bases loaded ended the inning with only 2 runs of damage. A Luis Rodgriguez leadoff double and a couple sacrifices put the Twins’ first run of the game on the board in the 3rd. The Indians answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning.
In the 5th inning a Joe Mauer double scored Shannon Stewart and Luis Castillo. The Indians followed by putting up 5 runs (including a Casey Blake grand slam) in the bottom of the inning. Justin Morneau hit his first homerun of the season in the top of the 6th for two RBIs and later hit a solo shot in the 8th. A miserable game finally ended with an 11-6 loss in which Twins pitchers gave up 17 hits and 3 walks.
Lohse threw 99 pitches in 4.2 innings and gave up 11 hits, 8 runs and 3 walks.
Notes
- One positive note from the game was Justin Morneau’s two homeruns. With the talent of the Twins pitching, they should never lose when Morneau hits 2 HRs and the team scores 6 runs.
- Lew Ford got the start in RF today. Gardenhire didn’t want to take any chances with Kubel on the wet field today.
- Luis Rodriguez started in place of Tony Batista at third. Probably just a routine off-day for Batista.

Morneau also drove a ball to dead center, which Sizemore caught. He could have easily been 4 for 4. It is good sign that he started hitting after a shaky series in Toronto.
