Twins 1, Royals 3 Twins 1 at Royals 3 April 26th, 2006 at 11:30 pm
You know that optimistic feeling all baseball fans have at the beginning of the season? Well, that’s starting to wear off. It doesn’t look like the Twins have improved their offense as much as we’d hoped. Wednesday night, Runelvys Hernandez, who didn’t even start the season in the Royals rotation limited the Twins to 2 hits, no walks, and 1 run in 7 innings. The Twins picked up a hit in both the 8th and 9th innings, for a grand total of 4 hits in the game. The only run of the game came on Justin Morneau’s 5th homer of the season.
MLB.com’s Alan Eskew reported:
Hernandez, who was 1-2 with a 10.67 ERA in three starts with Omaha, retired 13 in a row after Stewart’s hit before Justin Morneau homered to right-center with one out in the fifth.
1-2 with a 10.67 ERA?? Doesn’t that make you feel better about tonight’s offensive performance?
Scott Baker pitched about as well as you could hope for, giving up 3 runs through 7 innings with no walks. The game was tied at 1 in the 6th when Matt Stairs doubled to drive in a run and then Emil Brown drove him in with a single.
Looking Ahead
Johan Santana will start for the Twins on Thursday afternoon against former Twin lefthander, Mark Redman. Look for the Twins b-squad to take the field, being that there’s a lefty and it’s a departure day.
