The Twins dropped their fifth straight game and were swept again by the Tigers Thursday afternoon. This is the fourth time the Twins have been swept by an AL Central opponent. Radke struggled early again and the Twins trailed this entire game. Radke did, however, pick up a quality start as 2 of the 5 runs he gave up were unearned. The Twins had 3 errors in the game (Punto throwing, Castro throwing, Morneau fielding) which combined with Detroit’s 2 errors set up for a pretty sloppy day of baseball.

The Twins threatened a ninth inning comeback against Todd Jones in the ninth. Note to Detroit: you might want to consider an upgrade at closer if you have any hope of making and succeeding in the playoffs. I guess it’s better than having a great closer on a team that’s not good enough to need one.

Carlos Silva saw his first action out of the bullpen by pitching the 7th. He was a bit shaky, giving up 1 hit and 2 walks. Silva had just 4 walks in 46 innings up to this point. He did manage to get out of the inning thanks to a double play liner by Chris Shelton. Double plays were Silva’s forte, but not the 9-2 (Cuddyer to Redmond) variety.

Game Notes

  • Juan Castro returned after missing several games with a injured finger. He was 0-for-3.
  • Redmond was 3-for-5 including a big hit in the 9th innings. He’s batting .415 through his 11 games and 41 at bats this year.
  • Lew Ford was 3-for-5 in the leadoff spot as Shannon Stewart got a day off.

Thanks! That stuff is great. I wonder if you would post it on the Public News section on the home page?
