Silva hit hard by Nats Nationals 8 at Twins 5 June 8th, 2007 at 11:30 pm

Carlos Silva retired just 9 batters in 3+ innings while allowing 9 hits and 2 walks. The light-hitting Nationals put up a .500 batting average and a 21.00 ERA against Silva in what was his shortest outing of the season.

Cristian Guzman led the Nationals with 3 singles and a double. The Nationals didn’t need any home runs to put up their eight runs. Ramon Ortiz came on in the fourth and allowed 2 inherited runners to score, but after that he slowed down the National offense. He was charged with just 1 earned run through 6 innings of relief pitching.

The Twins’ bats were held silent by Jason Simontacchi through 6 innings before Jason Kubel blasted a 3-run homer about 10 rows up in the upper deck. The Twins also scored a run in the eighth, but then left a couple runners stranded. They added another in the ninth to make things a little interesting, but in the end Silva’s 7 runs allowed were too many to overcome.

Game Notes

  • Joe Mauer was 1 for 5 with a triple in his return. He made solid contact in every at-bat though.
  • Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter each had 2 for 4 nights at the plate.
  • Mike Redmond was the DH and went 1 for 4 with a run scored.

Johan Santana will pitch on Saturday night against former Twin minor leaguer Levale Speigner. The Indians, Tigers and White Sox lost on Friday night, so the Twins missed a perfect opportunity to pick up a game against everyone.

Are you Twins fans nuts or something? Carl Poulad is making millions of dollars and you continue to suppport a team that he, himself, won't support. He sucks bucks out of the baseball club and won't give the fans what they need. AND WHAT DO THEY NEED? Not a new stadium! But a winning team, beginning with solid pitchers!

Nothing better typifies Mr. Poulad's disregard for his team, his fans and winning than losing three straight to the A's in the '06 playoffs.

Wanna know what Carl Poulad considers this year? I'll tell you! It's a "burn" year and he knows the Twins are going down and is simply waiting for the return of Liriano.

But it's a neverending spiral, because great players like Torii Hunter, Morneau, Mauer, Santana, Cuddyer and others WANT TO PLAY FOR A WINNING TEAM! YOU'LL NEVER HAVE A WINNER ANYMORE UNDER CARL POHLAD!

IF I LIVED IN THE TWIN CITIES I'D LEAD THE GREATEST STRIKE AGAINST CARL POHLAD IN THE HISTORY OF BASEBALL.

AS LONG AS FANS CONTINUE SUPPORTING POULAD, HE'LL CONTINUE HOLDING HIS MONEY, REFUSING TO SUPPORT THE TEAM WITH SOLID PITCHING AND YOU'LL CONTINUE GETTING THE MEDIOCRITY YOU CONTINUE TO RECEIVE!

CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

Hey, Jon… You're absolutely right! The only thing that'll make Pohlad do what's right for his team is a FAN STRIKE!

I'm with you! No more tickets this year! Absolutely! And I ask everyone to pass it on. Hit 'em in the pocketbook where it hurts!

Pass it on! SNARL CARL! NO MORE TICKETS! PASS IT ON!

Jon, bashing Pohlad has long been a popular thing to do, but that's not entirely the problem. Sure, dumping millions of dollars into expanding the payroll would help, but it's not everything. Owners are in it to make a profit, and it's not fair to blame anyone for that.

Torii Hunter and his big contract could've been gone this year, but the Twins chose to spend the money and bring him back. They also gave Mauer money for a long-term deal. They're willing to spend, they just can't compete with the Chicago and New Yorks of the world.

The Yankees (top payroll) and the White Sox (# 4 in payroll) are both sitting with equal or worse records than the Twins right now.
