Shutout by Redman Royals 2 at Twins 0 August 29th, 2006 at 10:51 pm
The Twins have seemed to play their poorest baseball after off days, and Tuesday’s series opener was no exception. The offense could only muster 5 hits against mediocre lefty, Mark Redman. This was following the 1-run performance on Sunday against lefthander Mark Buerhle, who has also struggled in the second half of the season. The White Sox victory over Tampa Bay puts the Twins back in second in the wildcard race—by 1/2 game.
Matt Garza continued to look better. He allowed the games only two runs in 7 2/3 innings. Clearly the Royals factored into a part of Garza’s success, but nonetheless it’s good to see some solid pitching. Hopefully Boof Bonser can continue where he left off last week in Baltimore.
Game Notes
- The Twins had no extra base hits in the game and never got a runner past second.
- Jason Bartlett had 2 singles.
- Garza’s record dropped to 1-3, despite his best start thus far.
Liriano working his way back
There’s a chance that Liriano could return to the rotation in mid-September. His medical exam went well and he’s set to throw from a mound on Wednesday. Check out MLB.com’s update for more info.
