Santana gets Twins back in win column Royals 1 at Twins 3 August 31st, 2006 at 11:30 pm
Johan Santana did exactly what you want your ace to do: he went out and stopped the Twins 3-game skid before it turned into a season-ending slump. Santana allowed just five hits and a run while striking out 11 Kansas City Batters. The Twins needed the strong outing from Santana as their offense continued to slump with only three runs.
Mike Redmond provided three of the Twins’ seven hits. The Twins’ only RBI came on Rondell White’s fourth homerun of the season. One of the other runs came on a Torii Hunter GIDP and the other came as an insurance run in the eighth on a throwing error by catcher John Buck.
Game Notes
- Nick Punto started at second base and led off the game with Luis Castillo recovering from a sprained ankle on Wednesday night. Luis Rodriguez played at third.
- Joe Nathan got his 28th save of the season.
Just 1/2 game back
The Devil Rays helped out the Twins by beating Chicago which moved the Twins back to just 1/2 game behind the Sox. Unfortunately the White Sox will be playing Kansas City while the Twins play New York this weekend. The Yankees won the final game of the series against Detroit which moved the Twins to within five games in the AL Central race.
