Radke gets (home)run Support Brewers 2 at Twins 8 June 30th, 2006 at 11:30 pm

The Twins won the first game of the Milwaukee series in convincing fashion. Back-to-back homeruns from Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter in the second inning gave the Twins an early lead that they only added to throughout the game. Terry Tiffee added a third homer in the sixth. Brad Radke continued to pitch well and he’s now improved his record to 7-7 and dropped his ERA to 5.11. He’s only 2 wins shy of his 2005 win total.

The Twins spread the hits and RBI around. Seven players had 1 hit in the game, but none had more. Joe Mauer and Terry Tiffee each had 2 RBI and the other 4 were spread among Punto, Cuddyer, Morneau and Hunter.

Game Notes

  • Mauer struck out his first two at bats and finished with an intentional walk and a 2-run double. His average is still at .392.
  • Morneau hit his 20th homerun, becoming the first Twins to reach 20 by the all-star break since Kent Hrbek in 1987.
  • Terry Tiffee was the DH and hit his second homerun of the seaon. Shannon Stewart is expected to DH on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Radke gave up just 4 hits in 7 innings and walked nobody. He still has a .328 BAA on the season.

Saturday vs. Capuano

The Twins face their toughest pitcher of the series Saturday night in Chris Capuano. He defeated the Twins earlier this season and also shut them out through seven in his only appearance against them last season.

In the Division

The White Sox beat the Cubs and the Tigers beat the Pirates, so there was no movement within the top of the Central.
