Offensive struggles continue for Twins Royals 3 at Twins 1 April 6th, 2008 at 5:53 pm
A quality start from Boof Bonser wasn’t enough to overcome the continued offensive struggles of the Twins. Through seven games their offense is averaging only 2.7 runs per game and they’ve been limited to 1 or less run in 3 games.
Justin Morneau created the Twins only run of the game with a sixth inning solo blast, his second of the series (and season). After coming into the series without a hit, he amassed 5 in the series and drove in 6 runs. He’s now batting .208 with 7 RBI.
Game Notes
- Matt Tolbert got his third straight start, this time at SS to give Adam Everett a day of rest. Tolbert continued to hit well, going 2-4 with a double.
- Brendan Harris returned to the lineup after missing a couple games with the flu. He had a double.
- Denard Span, got the start in RF and was 0-2 with a walk. He batted ninth in the lineup.
- Mike Lamb has just 2 hits on the year and is batting .100 through 20 AB with just 1 walk on the year.
- Jesse Crain and Dennys Reyes each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for Bonser.
Looking ahead
The Twins currently have the lowest runs scored per game average in the AL. Hopefully that can change as they head out onto the road. They’ll open a 3-game series in Chicago on Monday, then have a strange mid-series day off on Tuesday before finishing the series on Wednesday and Thursday. They’ll then match up with the Royals again, this time in Kansas City, for the weekend.
Monday’s game will feature Nick Blackburn against Javier Vasquez. Vasquez got a little roughed up in his first start of the season against Cleveland. He’s 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA. Blackburn had a win stolen from him last week by the Twins’ offense. He’s 0-1 with a 1.29 ERA after the one start.
