Offense back for Twins Twins 11 at Orioles 2 August 24th, 2006 at 10:33 pm

The Twins offense had been lackluster in the run department the past few games, but it returned to form against the Orioles on Thursday night. Michael Cuddyer was 4-4 with 4 RBI, Joe Mauer was 3-4 with 4 RBI and Justin Morneau hit his 32nd homer of the season. Torii Hunter also hit his 4th homerun in the last six games to push his season total to 19. It was the 3,4,5 and 6 hitters that provided all of the Twins’ 11 RBI in the game—something I wouldn’t mind seeing a lot of in the final month of the season.

Boof Bonser also pitched pretty well and didn’t allow a run until the 7th inning when he allowed a 2-run homer to Ramon Hernandez. Bonser picked up his third win of the season and he has looked remarkably stable (not spectacular) in his last three starts. While they weren’t exactly pitching against the best offenses in the league, it was encouraging to see Bonser and Matt Garza put together back-to-back quality starts.

Game Notes

  • Morneau has 110 RBI on the year and Cuddyer has 86.
  • Luis Castillo was 3-5 with 3 runs scored.
  • The Twins scored 11 runs on 17 hits after scoring just 4 runs on 15 hits Wednesday night.

Another wildcard weekend

The Twins will head to Chicago for a 3 game set this weekend, still just 1/2 game behind the White Sox in the wildcard lead. The Twins will have their top three starters—Radke, Santana and Silva—going against the Sox. They’ll also miss Jon Garland, whose been the best White Sox starter lately. If you haven’t heard, Jim Thome is also expected to miss the series after pulling his hamstring in Detroit on Wednesday.
