No run support for Silva Twins 0 at Athletics 1 June 2nd, 2007 at 11:30 pm

For the fourth time this season, the Twins were shutout while Carlos Silva took the mound. Sadly, on all four occasions Silva pitched well enough to give the Twins the win. Silva allowed just 1 run and 5 hits through 8 innings for his longest outing of the season. However, Joe Blanton held the Twins to just 3 hits as he went the distance for Oakland. The loss snapped the Twins’ 5 game winning streak.

When only 8 hits and 1 run are allowed, the game goes by quickly. Saturday night’s game went just 1 hour and 49 minutes. Luis Castillo had 2 of the Twins hits with Justin Morneau getting the other one. All were singles.

Game Notes

  • Four Twins batters ended the night with batting averages below .240. Jeff Cirillo: .217, Jason Kubel: .234, Nick Punto: .233, Jason Bartlett: .238
  • Silva recorded his first complete game since 2005 when he had 2 of them.

Johan Santana (6-4, 3.21) will work on getting the Twins back into the win column against Chad Gaudin (5-1, 2.32), who hasn’t allowed a run since May 18th.

Within the Division, Cleveland beat Detroit and Chicago lost to Toronto on Saturday.
