Milwaukee weekend wrap Twins 5 at Brewers 6 May 20th, 2007 at 10:56 pm

The lack of posts over the past few games are a result of me being in Milwaukee for the series. Unfortunately, the Hilton didn’t offer free wifi, so I was able to use that as an excuse to completely stay away from computers for a couple days.

Both the Brewers and Twins were struggling coming into the series, but it was the Brewers whose struggles continued into the weekend. The Twins got a fantastic performance from Boof Bonser on Friday night and then Scott Baker came just short of a complete game on Saturday night in his season debut. The Twins bats also came alive with Torii Hunter providing a grand slam on Friday night and a 2-run homer on Saturday night. On Sunday Michael Cuddyer provided the power with a 2-run homer.

The downside of the start was a third straight poor performance for Ramon Ortiz. It was pretty disappointing to see of the offense get him an early lead only for him to give it back. The Twins should have come out of the weekend with a sweep, but 2 of 3 isn’t bad considering they had lost 5 straight series leading up to it.

Jason Kubel didn’t start a single game in the series. The plan is to move Kubel back to a DH role when AL play resumes. I would’ve liked to see him play more, especially on Sunday when the lineup contained the likes of Chris Heintz and Ramon Ortiz.

Cleveland won 2 of 3 and Detroit swept, so the Twins didn’t have any positive movement in the standings, but the important thing is that they’re playing better baseball.
