Facing Elimination Athletics 5 at Twins 2 October 4th, 2006 at 8:49 pm

The Twins have now dropped the first two games of the series making an early exit in the playoffs more likely. The supposed dome-field advantage has been non-existant for the Twins in recent years as they’ve lost 6 straight home games in the playoffs. The Twins will hope to have better luck on the road on Friday.

The A’s played virtually flawless baseball over the past two games and at the same time have capitalized on Twins mistakes. Boof Bonser gave about as good a start as can be expected, but the offense was missing. It seemed like every time the Twins got a man on base there were two outs and there just wasn’t enough time to move the runners along.

The Twins only offense came in the sixth inning on back-to-back bombs from Michael Cuddyer and Justin Morneau. The Twins don’t have any hits with runners in scoring position in the series which has been the key ingredient to the two losses.

Game Notes

  • Cuddyer and Mornea each had 2 hits.
  • Luis Castillo struck out 3 times looking.
  • Torii Hunter set up an inside-the-park homerun for Mark Kotsay when he dove for a shallow fly ball that got by him and rolled to the wall.
