Boof comes up big Tigers 1 at Twins 2 September 9th, 2006 at 11:30 pm

Boof is starting to look more and more like a good option for the bottom half of the Twins rotation in 2007 (and the remainder of 2006). He came up with a big start in a big game against the Tigers. Through seven innings he allowed just 1 run as he threw about two-thirds of his pitches across the plate for strikes. The win moved the Twins to within three games of the Tigers and with Johan Santana on the hill Sunday it could very well be 2 games. The White Sox held off a late inning rally by the Indians to stay just a half game out.

Game Notes

  • Omar Infante’s second inning error which allowed Cuddyer to score and Morneau to reach third was the difference in the game. The two runs scored that inning were the Twins only runs.
  • Bonser improved to 5-5 and allowed just five hits and two walks.
  • The Twins had seven hits but no Twin had more than one.

Sunday matchups

Chicago has Javier Vaszquez going against C.C. Sabathia. With that matchup and the Twins sending Johan to the mound, I like the Twins chances of moving 1 1/2 games up on the White Sox.
