Athletics 2, Twins 8 Athletics 2 at Twins 8 April 13th, 2006 at 2:32 pm
The Twins are riding high after completing the sweep against Oakland today at the Metrodome. Similar to their other 3 victories this season, the Twins fell behind early as Kyle Lohse struggled in the 1st inning. Lohse gave up 2 runs and threw 30 pitches before getting out of the inning, but he was solid after that.
Game Notes
- Lohse had the Twins first quality start of the season, going 6 innings and giving up 2 runs
- Rondell White continued to struggle, going 0-for-4, dropping his season average to .088. He left 5 runners on base. He’ll surely get his bat going soon, but maybe Gardy should switch things up a bit by giving him a day off or playing him in the OF for one game.
- Mike Redmond, playing in place of Joe Mauer today, was great at the plate, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s.
- Hunter hit his 3rd homerun of the season in the first inning to put the Twins in the lead. Homeruns have been the key to the Twins success in this series with Batista and Morneau going deep in the previous two games to put the Twins in the lead.
- Fransisco Liriano was amazing in his 2 innings of relief today. He struck out 5 of the 7 batters he faced and gave up just 1 hit. He has 12 K’s on the year in just 6 2/3 innings. It almost seemed like a waste to use him in a situation where the Twins already had the game pretty much wrapped up, but I guess it had been a few days since he pitched, so he had to get some work in. The sooner we can get him into the starting rotation, the better.
- Nick Punto was 2-for-4 today, playing at SS as Juan Castro had the day off. One of his hits was a 2-out triple in the 6th. Stewart drove him in with a single.
- Michael Cuddyer put his average above .100 with a pretty meaningless 8th inning solo homerun.
Other Notes
- The Twins have just 2 errors so far this season and none in their past 6 games.
- In the division: Cleveland, Detroit and Kansas City lost today and Chicago won (beating Detroit). The Twins are 4th in the division and 2 games behind Cleveland who’s on top.
