Angels blast Twins with 23 hits Twins 3 at Angels 16 June 4th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
The final two games in Oakland caused some concern about a Twins offensive slump. That offensive slump continued while the Angels piled up 16 runs on 23 hits in the series opener on Monday night.
A good psychiatrist would probably tell you it’s not healthy to dwell on the negative things, so I’ll keep this post short; There’s certainly nothing good to say about this game.
- Boof Bonser started out ok, but came apart in his later innings. He was pulled in the sixth inning after alloweding two homers. He was charged with 6 runs on 12 hits through 5 1/3 innings.
- Ramon Ortiz is no better in the bullpen than he was as a starter. In relief of Bonser he allowed 2 runs more runs in what turned out to be a 5 run sixth inning.
- Jason Miller’s MLB career started out well with 3 2/3 innings of scoreless pitching spanning 3 appearances. His outing on Monday night was absolutely miserable to watch. He was hit like a batting practice pitcher and managed to retire just 1 batter. The Angels amassed 8 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks against Miller which raised his season ERA to an unimaginable 18.00 on the season. Will the outing be a character builder or a career killer?
The Twins added a couple runs in the ninth inning, but by then it was far too late. The game fittingly ended when Jason Tyner grounded into a double play with bases load.
Scott Baker will try to bounce back from his short start last week. Hopefully the Twins will be a little fired up after getting embarrassed in the opener.
