Angels 4, Twins 3 Twins 3 at Angels 4 May 29th, 2006 at 11:30 pm

Radke has his best start since his April start against Kansas City and the Twins went into the bottom of the 8th with a 3-2 lead which is almost always safe considering they have Rincon and Nathan to finish close out the game. Poor defense cost the Twins the game though. In the eighth inning Juan Rincon got 2 quick outs, but then walked Jose Molina. Adam Kennedy then grounded to Juan Castro who’s throw couldn’t be handled by Justin Morneau. No error was given, but it was a play that Morneau should’ve made. Following that play Luis Castillo had a ball hit off his glove which tied the game.

In the ninth inning Rondell White reached second base with 2 outs and was picked off. It’s no guarantee that he would’ve scored with 2 outs, but you hate to lose a runner in scoring position.

Jesse Crain pitched the 10th and 11th and the game was lost in the bottom of the 11th when a Orlando Cabrera base-hit scored Chone Figgins. Chone Figgins was previously allowed to advance on a errant pick-off throw from Crain. This was an important game and a tough one to lose. The Twins were riding high from a 3 game sweep of Seattle, so hopefully this loss won’t derail any momentum they might have had.

Game Notes

  • Radke’s start was encouraging. He still walked 3 batters which isn’t Radke-like, but the fact that he wasn’t shelled is a good sign.
  • Jason Kubel was 0-3 with 2 K’s. He’s looked pretty shaky since being called up and I’m sure that’s largely due to the fact that he’s worried about being sent down again. I hope Gardy will stick with him a little better than he did at the start of the season and give him a chance to get into a groove.
  • Rondell White reached .200 with a 2-4 night at the plate.
