Two options for Santana trade? December 4th, 2007 at 1:58 pm

Various outlets are reporting that the Twins have been given two packages to choose from by the Red Sox:

Option 1

  1. Jon Lester
  2. Coco Crisp
  3. Justin Masterson
  4. Jed Lowrie

Option 2

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury
  2. Masterson
  3. Lowrie

If reports are true the Twins are basically deciding between Ellsbury or Lester and Crisp. In my opinion, #2 is a no-brainer. None of the prospects are likely super-stars, but Ellsbury not only has more upside than Crisp, but he comes at a much cheaper price. Lester is a nice addition, but again, he’s probably a #2 starter and the Twins have demonstrated over the years that they can develop starting pitchers from within. On the other hand, they’re desperate for capable bats.

Coco Crisp should simply not be involved in any trade. He made almost $4 million last year while losing his job to an inexperiences Ellsbury in the playoffs.

It’d be nice if the Yankees would step up with a 3rd prospect to add to their Phil Hughes and Melky Cabrera offer.
