Twins Capitalize on Morrow Implosion
Down 5-3, and with Carlos Gomez at the plate with 2 outs and 2 strikes, it seemed clear that the Twins were headed to an 0-2 start against the Seattle Mariners. However, Go-Go drew a walk from Seattle Closer Brandon Morrow and Kubel and Buscher followed up with walks themselves. Denard Span brought the Twins within a run with his third single of the night and then Casilla poked a single into center field to score the tying and winning runs, in walk off fashion.
Game Notes
After posting ugly spring stats, Denard Span is off to a good start to the regular season. He drew 2 walks on Monday night while playing terrific defense in LF. Tuesday night he was in right, and went 3-5 with 2 RBI and a stolen base.
With Mike Redmond day-to-day, after injuring his groin on Monday night, Jose Morales started behind the plate. After coming into the season a perfect 3-3 at the plate in his short career, he is 0-4 on the season.
Michael Cuddyer added 2 RBI in the game, brining his season total to a team-leading 3.
Seattle lefty Erik Bedard was cruising until the Twins finally got to him for 3 runs in the fifth inning.
Nick Blackburn was beat up and lasted just five innings. He allowed 8 hits and 3 walks, leading to 4 Seattle runs.
Matt Guerrier pitched 2 perfect innings of relief. Luis Ayala did allow one run in the ninth, but Kudos to the bullpen for keeping the game within reach.
