Twins add Nevin, will it help?

The Twins picked up Phil Nevin from the Chicago Cubs with just a few hours remaining in the waiver trading deadline. Will Nevin be a difference maker or will he just be another subpar option for the DH spot? Probably a little of both.

On the year Nevin is batting .245 with 21 HR in 355 at-bats. He's not a great option as an everyday DH, but at the very least he can be a good bat off the bench when he doesn't start. He has the ability to get a big hit late in a game, which is the type of guy the Twins could use. With neither White or Kubel doing much of anything in the DH spot, Nevin will most likely see a fair number of starts there too.

The trade can't hurt and it's really the most a Twins fan could realistically hope for.

September call-ups

With the rosters expanding on Friday the Twins have recalled Scott Baker, Chris Heintz and Alexi Casilla. Baker will start in place of Radke on Saturday agains the Yankees. Chris Heintz will be the third catcher and likely won't see much playing time at all, however he will give Ron Gardenhire a sense of ease in using Redmond off as a pinch hitter.

Alexi Casilla started out the year in A ball and played most recently at the AA level. He hit over .300 and stole a lot of bases at both level. With Luis Castillo expected to miss some time with his ankle injury, the Twins needed another infield option and Casilla is the best choice.
