Twins 7, Royals 3
The Twins had a good day on Thursday against the Royals both offensively and defensively. Lefties Morneau and Mauer and also Batista and Castro had the day off today. Mark Redman started for the Royals, but didn't make it through the 2nd.
Lew Ford started off the 2nd inning rally with an infield single. Michael Cuddyer followed up with a single of his own before Punto made the 2nd out of the inning. On a double steal, catcher John Buck threw the ball into the outfield which scored Lew Ford and moved Cuddyer to 3rd. Things only got worse for the Royals from there as Redman walked Rodriguez and Stewart to load up the bases. A Luis Castillo singled to score 2 more runs and then Mike Redmond and Rondell White followed up with RBI singles of their own.
At that point Redman was pulled from the game and the Royals finally got out of the inning. The Twins would add 2 more runs to the board through the rest of the game which included Cuddyer's 3rd homer of the season.
Santana was back in form today as he pitched 8 strong innings, giving up 3 runs and racking up 10 K's, the most in a game this season (previous high was 6). Surprsingly, this was his first win of the season. This also secured the Twins first road series victory of the season.
