Twins 2, Royals 1
The Twins ended their 4 game skid by sneaking past the Royals in a wet Tuesday night game in Kansas City. The Win brought the Twins record to 8-11 and became the 8th come-from-behind win of the season for the Twins.
Kyle Lohse gave up the Royals' only run when he had some control issues in the 4th. He walked the leadoff batter, Mark Teahan, and then gave up a single to Angel Berroa. He set up an easy run-scoring situation by hitting Shane Costa to load the bases. A Mark Grudzielanek grounball scored the run. In the game Lohse gave up 5 hits and 5 walks, one of which was intentional.
The Twins didn't get on the board until the 8th inning. Starter Scott Elarton's night had completed and Lew Ford led off the innng with a single. He advanced to second on a passed ball and then pinch-hitter Ruben Sierra singled to drive him in. Nick Punto pinch ran for Ruben Sierra and later scored on a Joe Mauer sac fly to put the Twins in the lead.
In typical Twins fashion, Rincon held off the Royals in the 8th and Joe Nathan pitched the 9th for the save.
Game Notes
- Fransisco Liriano pitched the 7th and gave up 1 hit and 1 walk, but no runs. He picked up his first win of the season.
- Rondell White was back in the cleanup spot and went 1-for-4.
- Shannon Stewart and Luis Castillo were back after both missing the weekend series in Chicago. Stewart was 1 for 3 and Castillo went 0 for 4. Both will understandably need a game or two to get back into the swing of things.
- The Twins had just 6 hits in the game, and although the pitching wasn't fantastic it was enough to hold off the weak KC bats.
- The game was rain delayed by about an hour and the weather was cold. After cold weather excuses from the Cleveland series it's good to see they can pick up a win in uncomfortable conditions.
