Terry Ryan Stepping Down September 13th, 2007 at 1:26 pm
What did it take to bring me back from my stint of inactivity? First, I finally have internet hooked up at home again after recently moving, but most importantly Terry Ryan has dropped a bit of a surprise by deciding to step down as General Manager of the Minnesota Twins.
The official announcement will happen in a press conference in less than an hour, but for now La Velle E. Neal III has the scoop over at the Strib. The move is apparently the most notable of what will become a number of organizational changes for the Twins.
The timing seems peculiar to me, so it’ll be interesting to see what’s said in the press conference. However, with so many important decisions to be made this offseason, it might make sense to get his replacement, Bill Smith, in place as soon as possible.
Bill Smith has worked for the Twins for 22 years and has most recently been the assistant GM.
I’ll have more information and further thoughts on the ramifications of the move as more details become public.
