Silva will return

It's official, The Twins have picked up Silva's option for 2007 at a price tag of $4.35 million. Yes, we have another fatigue and tummy ache filled season to look forward to.

On the bright side, he couldn't pitch much worse, right?

Edit (11/1/2006): LEN III again demonstrates why he's my favorite local sports writer. He had the following to say about Silva's signing:

The Twins' decision to pick up the $4.325 million option on righthander Carlos Silva's 2007 contract makes sense in many ways.

Financially, it's one less position for which the Twins will have to consider a free agent. Remember last offseason, when pitchers such as >Esteban Loaiza fetched $7 million a year as free agents? This year's class might be even thinner.

So true. I just wonder if, with the Twins minor league pitching depth, it isn't better to spend $4 million elsewhere and hope one of the young guys can at least match what Silva's "production" while making the league minimum.
