Silva in Seattle
Carlos Silva is close to signing with the Seattle Mariners, reports Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com. The deal would be worth $44 million for 4 years. That's a lot of money for a league-average pitcher, but it doesn't come as much of a surprise.
Jeff Suppan signed a similar contract ($42 million/4 years) last offseason and at the time was 3 years old than Silva is today.
Silva is a good #3/4 starter, but with all the Twins other needs, it didn't make sense to compete for Silva in the free agent market. He should fit in well in Seattle with the other overpaid free agent signings of recent years (Richie Sexson, Adrian Beltre, Jarrod Washburn, Jose Vidro, etc.).
Seattle fans don't seem particularly excited about obtaining the services of Mr. Silva.
