Series preview - LA Angels June 4th, 2007 at 6:30 am
The Twins will continue their short west coast swing with a 3-game set in Anaheim to face the Angels. The Twins will send out 3 starters who have a combined 58 career starts at the big league level. They will match up like so:
- Monday: Boof Bonser (4-1, 3.61) vs. Jered Weaver (4-3, 4.25). Bonser has been quite effective in his last three start and he’s picked up the win in his last 4 starts. His counterpart, Weaver, has struggled in his last couple outings.
- Tuesday: Scott Baker (1-0, 5.94) vs. Kelvim Escobar (6-3, 3.00). After a stellar debut in Milwaukee, things have been a bit rough for Baker. He lasted just 3 innings against Chicago last week.
- Wednesday: Kevin Slowey (0-0, 1.50) vs. John Lackey (9-3, 2.37). Lackey has been the Angel’s top starter this year as his record clearly shows. Slowey has just one start on his record, but if he can pitch like he did Friday in Oakland, then the Twins should have a chance to beat Lackey.
The Angles come into the series with a comfy 5.5 game lead over the second place Seattle Mariners. The Twins are still trying to claw their way back into contention. The Angels are 10-11 against AL Central opponents and this will be the first time they’ve played the Twins this year.
