Scott Baker to DL

Scott Baker just pitched 5 strong innings against AAA competition yesterday, so it comes as a surprise that Joe Christensen is reporting that Baker will start the season on the 15-day DL with shoulder soreness.

If Baker's absence is extended beyond a couple weeks, it would be a huge blow to a Twins rotation that is pretty stable 1-5, but has questionable depth.

The news almost guarantees the Twins will go with a 12-man rotation to start the season, meaning Philip Humber, R.A. Dickey and Brian Duensing will all make the team. Dickey will likely fill the role of the fifth starter. All other starters will slide up a spot in the rotation, meaning Francisco Liriano will start on opening Day.

WIth Bonser and Mauer already on the DL, this team is in rough physical condition heading into the season.
