Royals 1, Twins 6

After losing 4 straight the Twins now have a winning streak started after beating Seattle on Tuesday night and Kansas City on Wednesday night. The Twins have also finally found a cure for Brad Radke's early inning struggles -- the Kansas City Royals. Radke gave up just 3 hits, no walks and no runs through the first 6 innings of the game. He did finally surrender a solo homerun to Matt Stairs in the 7th (it's not a true Radke start without a homerun allowed). By that time the Twins already had a comfortable 6 run lead. Fransisco Liriano came in to finish the came and after being a little roughed up in his last outing, he was back to his old ways Wednesday night, striking out 3 and allowing just 1 hit in 2 innings.

The Twins paid a lot of money to Joe Mays over the past few years to do a whole lot of sucking. Tonight he gave something back to the Twins by, well, sucking. Mays coasted through the first two innings without much trouble, but things began to fall apart in the 3rd when Rondell White reached on an error. A single by Stewart followed by a sac bunt by Castillo and a Joe Mauer groundball out scored the Twins first two runs of the game. With two outs in the inning Torii Hunter belted his 6th homer of the season, tying Justin Morneau for the team lead and making the score 4-0. The Twins came back with 2 more runs in the 4th which forced Mays out of the game. Stewart and Mauer each had ground rule doubles to almost the exact same spot (center field) in the inning. Stewart, Mauer and Hunter accounted for all the Twins' RBIs with 2 each.

Game Notes

  • Castro had a bad game in the field on Monday night and tonight he seemed slow in getting to a ball hit just to the left of 2nd base. I was sitting up in the nose-bleeds, but it seemed like a ball a lot of shortstops would get to.
  • Tony Batista again wasn't able to waddle over to a ball hit near the stands in foul territory. How many outs has he cost us this way so far?
  • Radke picked up his 3rd win of the season (3-3) and his first quality start. His ERA dropped to a slightly less embarrassing 7.29.

Within the Division

The White Sox, Tigers, and Indians all won on Wednesday. The White Sox were able to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth (thanks, Eddie) before finally winning it on a Uribe single in the 11th. The Twins still sit in 4th place in the Central and are 8 games behind Chicago.
