Reaction to the trade November 29th, 2007 at 11:01 pm

The response to the 6 player trade centered around Matt Garza and Delmon Young has been mostly positive. Here’s what some other Twins bloggers had to say about it:

Howard Sinker is happy to see the Twins make a significant move and thinks Bill Smith made a good deal.

Joe Christensen think a change of scenery might be good for Young and thinks the Twins feel Young will become a bigger star than Garza.

Aaron Gleeman provides the most in-depth analysis of the trade and is mostly critical of the Twins in this deal. In his opinion the change to dealing Eduardo Morlan instead of Juan Rincon soured the deal for the Twins. He’s also not a big fan of the Brendan Harris for Jason Bartlett swap. The entire write-up is a must-read.

Nick Nelson is hopeful the Twins will recoup a pitching prospect to replace Garza when Santana is inevitably traded in the near future. He’s also a bit sour on the Bartlett and Morlan angle of the trade.

Ubelmann doesn’t like risk, and thinks this is one risky deal on the part of the Twins. He also had an interesting comment about how Young would probably still be working his way through the minors if the Twins had control of him from the beginning. He’s probably right.

Twins Territory thinks Jason Pridie might just have a shot in CF for 2008…if the Twins are left with few other options.

Landon at Bugs & Cranks likes the deal and has high hopes for Young. He likes the addition of Delmon’s right-handed bat into a lineup that includes lefties Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau. He also brings up the interesting possibility of Michael Cuddyer moving back to third base while Young takes over in right.
