Ponson is out May 13th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
Sidney Ponson’s stint with the Twins appears to be over. He has been designated for assignment to AAA Rochester and Garret Jones will be called up to replace the active roster spot.
There’s still no word on who will fill Ponson’s spot in the rotation, but Rick Anderson’s comments to La Velle E. Neal seam to indicate that Glen Perkins won’t be the guy meaning another move should be expected soon.
Jones will be 26 in a month and has been in the Twins minor league system for a number of years. Originally a first baseman, the Twins have been trying him in the outfield lately due to the fact that they have little need for a 1B at the major league level. Jones is a power hitter and this season in Rochester he’s batted .305 with 5 HR and 9 doubles.
Update (5:21 PM): The AP is reporting that Ponson has been released. According to the story Ponson “will head to his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and hope for another call from a major league club.”

Twin players showed the fans the real Twins and I think it is because they know that Ponson is gone. For all the players and fans of the Twins the feeling is most likely to be expressed by the words of Martin Luther King "Free at last. Free at last. Thank God Almighty I (we) are free at last". And I certainly hope that something has been learned here..we have a team of young men who can play excellent ball when they do not have someone sandbagging them….Congratulations Torii…and Big Congratulations to Mike Redmond…that hit was awesome! Go Twins!!!!!
