Opening Day Forecasts

Surely a lot will be made of the forecasted high of 35 degrees on opening day in the Twin Cities. With the controversial roofless Target Field set to open next season, the open-air haters will be out in full force.

Cold weather has been and always will be part of the first weeks of the major league season. Minneapolis is hardly the only city that will host baseball next week in less than comfortable conditions. See the forecasts courtesy of weather.com:

  • Apr 6 @ Min: High of 35° F
  • Apr 8 @ Bos: High of 46° F
  • Apr 8 @ Cin: High of 44° F
  • Apr 6 @ ChW: High of 41° F
  • Apr 8 @ ChW: High of 39° F
  • Apr 8 @ Bal: High of 47° F
  • Apr 7 @ Stl: High of 44° F

Clearly Minneapolis will lead the pack, but hitters will be experiencing that stinging feeling in several cities across the country. Detroit and Cleveland could easily be added to that list, if they were opening at home.

In a couple weeks we'll all forget what the temperatures were like. I'll surely trade a season under teflon for a couple weeks suffering in the cold outdoors.
