Mets and Santana still negotiating February 1st, 2008 at 12:02 am

Johan Santana is asking for 6 years and $150 million, which is apparently a ways away from what the Mets had in mind. The deadline for a deal is 4pm on Friday, so that gives them less than 24 hours to reach an agreement. It seems unlikely that they wouldn’t agree by then.

Meanwhile LEN III reported Thursday what had been spread widely among the blogosphere immediately following the trade, none of the four players the Twins would acquire are sure thing starters for 2008.

I thought maybe giving it a day or two to settle would ease my criticism of the trade, but I still can’t stop stop thinking of the other offers that were on the table. Phil Hughes could’ve been leading our young rotation in 2008, now we’ll be crossing our fingers, hoping for the best from a package of prospects with plenty of question marks.
