Japan All-Star Series November 1st, 2006 at 8:26 pm
MLB’s globalization efforts are turning baseball into a year event. March brought us the World Baseball Classic and November will see the inaugural Japan All-Star Series featuring a team of MLB “All-Stars” against Japan’s best players. Taking a look at the MLB roster, it’s clear that the term All-Star might be an exaggeration, but what more can you expect after a long regular season has just ended?
The Twins will indeed send two All-Star players, Joe Mauer and Joe Nathan. The full roster looks like this:
| Pitcher | Team |
|---|---|
| Bronson Arroyo | CIN |
| Erik Bedard | BAL |
| Chris Capuano | MIL |
| Brian Fuentes | COL |
| Clay Hensley | SD |
| Ray King | COL |
| John Lackey | LAA |
| John Maine | NYM |
| Mike Meyers | NYY |
| Joe Nathan | MIN |
| Scott Shields | LAA |
| Chris Young | SD |
| Player | Team |
|---|---|
| Kenji Johjima | SEA |
| Joe Mauer | MIN |
| Brian Schneider | WSH |
| Ryan Howard | PHI |
| Lyle Overbay | TOR |
| Chase Utley | PHI |
| Tadahito Iguchi | CWS |
| Rafael Furcal | LAD |
| Jose Reyes | NYM |
| David Wright | NYM |
| Jermaine Dye | CWS |
| Chone Figgins | LAA |
| Bill Hall | MIL |
| Andruw Jones | ATL |
| Jacque Jones | CHC |
Any predictions on the winner of the series? Does anyone care?
Finally, I got a chuckle out of the note in this StarTribune story.
Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, 76, was hospitalized after becoming ill while watching his granddaughter perform in a play Sunday in Chapel Hill, N.C. He was released Monday morning.
It must have been some performance.
