Is Matt Garza the answer? August 3rd, 2006 at 11:10 am

There’s no doubt that Matt Garza is good, but even Francisco Liriano wasn’t great when he debuted last fall. Last September he was 1-2 with a 5.70 ERA. I will admit, however, that the Twins don’t have any better options right now.

I've read reports – granted, on the web – that Garza's highly dependent on the fastball right now (which spells 'trouble' once you get to the show).

Supposedly he's going to be in Rochester a while to develop his other pitches & spend enough time at one level to settle in a bit, then get called up in September.

There's also been speculation that bringing him up now creates problems on the 40 man roster … not saying I endorse it, just that I've read it.
