Hunter: "stuff that needs to change" October 25th, 2007 at 7:19 pm
New broke today that apparently there has been no talk between the Twins front office and Torii Hunter. Hunter had the following to say:
“There’s other stuff, inside stuff, that people don’t know about,” Hunter told the paper. “Money has something to do with it, but trust me, that’s just a percentage. We need to talk about stuff that needs to change before we start to get into deep talks.”
I’m guessing money and contract length have a lot more to do with it than Hunter is letting on. It’d be interesting to know what needs to change in his mind. Does he want assurances that the Twins will field a winning team? Does he want Santana resigned?
There was the recent interview with Dan Barreiro in which he alluded to some “stuff” he didn’t like. Most notably, he harped on some unnamed players who aren’t doing the little things right and who aren’t playing hard enough.
Joe Nathan’s option to be picked up
The Twins will pick up Joe Nathan’s $6 million option for 2008. This is not much of a surprise considering he’d be worth a lot more on the open market. This may, however, be an indication that 2008 will be Nathan’s last year with the Twins. Now would have been a good time to try to negotiate a long-term contract with him.

Not that there's anything wrong with that…

Tori $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Hunter!
It figures that even Tori Hunter, one of the few that my son idolizes sold out. As we strive for sports heros we thought we had one, but he proved us wrong. He is a perfect example of all that is wrong in professional sports.
Hey tori remember my son, he is the one always screaming support for you from behind home plate-now he is just sad. I hope you enjoy your millions.
ps Where can I send my Tori Hunter cards, shirts, and caps we don't want them anymore.

When he leaves, he'll say that it wasn't about the money. Of course, it's about the money.
