Gold Gloves for Hunter and Santana November 7th, 2007 at 12:51 am
Johan Santana joined Torii Hunter as the only Twins to win gold gloves since the 2001 season when Doug Mientkiewicz won the award for first base. The 2007 Gold Glove winners for both leagues were announced on Tuesday.
The Hunter selection is not much of a surprise. This is his 7th straight award. I speculated in August that Santana had a pretty good chance of winning the award this season for the first time of his career. He has long been talked about as a great fielding pitcher and Kenny Roger’s injury plagued season left the door open for a new winner.
In August I also speculated that Justin Morneau had an outside chance of winning the award. That ended up going to Kevin Youkilis, who wasn’t even in my list of 4 or 5 possible winners. I’m not convinced Youkilis is the best first baseman in the league, but he did play errorless ball there over 135 games. The fact that he played for the World Champion Red Sox surely helped a bit too.

I think the Twins are going to trade Johan. They just offered him deal that i think is blatant lip service.
Check out our thoughts, thanks.
