Luis Castillo a Met? July 30th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

Joe Christensen says it’s about to happen.

Could Alexi Casilla already be on his way to the Twin Cities?

Update: It looks like the deal is as good as done…just a few details to work out. Castillo is in the lineup for the Twins tonight, but that would obviously change the minute the deal is finalized and the Twins would be short one player for the game until someone (presumably Casilla) can be recalled tomorrow.

The two players the Twins are rumored to be getting in return will almost certainly not have much of an impact on the Twins’ future, but it was unlikely the Twins would get anything for Castillo when he walked as a free agent at the end of the year.

Drew Butera is a light-hitting catcher currently at the Mets’ AA level. He batted .258 with 5 HRs in 182 at-bats at the A level and has batted .188 with 1 HR at the AA level.

Dustin Martin is an A-level outfielder whose batting .287 with 5 HRs and 11 SBs in 363 at-bats.

Both are 23 years of age.

My favorite Twin is gone, I hate to think that Terry Ryan is throwing in the towel and I want to think that he knows that he won't be able to resign Luis and wants to get at least something for him and he is clearing room to sign Torii in the off season.

Luis will be missed by loyal Twins fans, he was the heart and soul of this team and I don't think that Terry Ryan felt that we had the money to keep him around.

Yep, one of my favorite Twins too. He will be missed, but I'm not completley mad about this trade. Truth is, he wasn't going to resign, and we need to see if Casilla is the future at second.

What does make me mad now though, is they've done nothing to get better.

wow, what a bogus move… losing one of our best all-around players only to replace him with the error-bound Casilla. I don't understand what we are trying to accomplish here… Did you see the 87 and 91 teams making trades of experienced vets towards attaining prospect players during playoff runs??? Sad to say it, but I'm becoming less enthusiastic about watching this team… why don't we lose trade or release the numerous number of players who have had less of an impact on our season… like the injury prone rondell white, lew ford, nick punto, jeff cirillo, or the struggling juan rincon??? /sigh…
