Absence of Offense

It was the eighth inning before a Twins' baserunner reached second base, and that was the only time it happened in the game. The Twins managed just 5 hits, and fell to the Mariners by a score of 2-0, resulting in a series split.

It's a shame, because Glen Perkins gave the Twins their best start of the season, pitching 8 innings and allowing just 1 run on 5 hits. Luis Ayala allowed the 2nd Mariner run in the 9th inning.

Game Notes

  • Mike Redmond returned to the lineup after missing 2 games with a sore groin. I listened to some of the game on the radio, and it was noted that Redmond was clearly favoring it while running the bases. It seems as if an extra day of rest would have made a lot of sense. Redmond reached base twice, with a single and a walk.

  • Delmon Young got his second start of the season, but this time as the DH. He was 0-3 and grounded into a double play in the fifth. It's been a rough start for Delmon.

  • Brendan Harris led the team with 2 singles, in his first start of the season at SS.

Next Up

The Twins will face the White Sox in Chicago this weekend. The Sox have been having offensive struggles of their own. They were blanked by the Royals on Wednesday night and managed just 1 run in their loss to KC today.
