Thanks to some nifty waiver-wire maneuvering, the Twins completed the Jon Rauch deal by sending Kevin Mulvey to the Diamondbacks as the player to be named later. Acquired as part of the four-player haul for Johan Santana two winters ago, Mulvey was fourth on Baseball America's list of the Mets' top prospects at the time of the trade and was sixth on my list of the Twins' top prospects a short tim

On Friday the Twins took advantage of an error by the Mariners to win 2-1, and less than 24 hours later, the Mariners used two eighth inning hits to knock off the Twins by the exact same score. (AP Photo/Jim Mone) Season Record: 26-28 Up Next: Indians (12:10 CT, 6/4) It wasn't quite as easy for Anthony Swarzak in his third trip to the mound; after breezing through his previous two outings rather easily, Swarzak hit his first road-bump in the majors. The 23-year old rookie lasted only four innings, allowing nine hits and five runs as the Twins fell to the Cleveland Indians 10-1 in the sec

After an injury to starter Glen Perkins, the Twins opted to make the call to Triple-A Rochester for Swarzak, a highly touted prospect who posted a 2.25 ERA in seven starts.

Working with Walks In the first game of a four game series with the New York Yankees, lefty Francisco Liriano took the mound. Liriano, a pitcher now two years removed from Tommy John Surgery, has pitched very inconsistently early on in the '09 season. At times the once dominant pitcher has looked like an ace, an

(AP Photo/Jim Mone) Who cares? Nothing can be written to make the loss sound any better. The Twins led once again heading into the seventh inning. Four runs later, all given up by the bullpen, and the Twins took another loss. The team might as well call up the triple-A bullpen and overhaul what they have. The bullpen has blown four of the past ten games. Unbelievable.

Collecting the Victories The win didn't come without challenges, but after working out of several tough jams in his six inning outing, Kevin Slowey collected his fifth victory of the season. The fifth win is a welcome sign for Slowey, a pitcher who did well last season, but with little run support, won only 12 games instea

With a group of pitchers unable to collect any sort of outs last season, a long outing by the starting pitchers was often wasted and instead turned into a beating. The bullpen was consistent, but is was a consistency of allowin

That streak ended in their return to the Dome as the Twins knocked four balls over the fence for a much needed power surge. The reason for the recent power outage is hard to determine, but for now at least, it

All About Run Support Last season Kevin Slowey had a solid ERA from the middle of the rotation, yet because of poor run support, he struggled to collect victories and strengthen his record. After a handful of starts, Slowey has had his share of good games in which he's pitched great and earned his victories; there have howe

Everything Starts Somewhere Francisco Liriano hasn't been terrible, but he has been far from The Franchise that everybody has come to know. Inconsistency has been key for the young lefty; he's had a few solid outings, but following them up with short, high scoring games hasn't given anybody much to get excited about.
